These rules apply to every unit — walkers, bands, floats, vehicles, and mixed entries. The person who submits the entry form is responsible for briefing everyone in the unit.

The Parade Committee may inspect a unit before or during the parade and may pull an entry for safety or a rule violation.

1. Family-friendly and On Theme
Entertainment and conduct should fit a public celebration of Saint Patrick and Irish-American heritage. St. Patrick’s Day attire is welcome. No content the Committee finds inconsistent with that purpose.

2. You are responsible for your people
Each entry is responsible for the conduct of everyone marching, riding, or walking with it — including guests and children.

3. Stay in motion
Do not stop on the route to perform, pose, or load/unload. Gaps make spectators think the parade is over and may walk into the street. Keep a safe distance from the unit ahead (about four car lengths for vehicles and floats).

4. No one on or off a vehicle mid-route
Riders may not enter or exit a float, trailer, or vehicle until the unit has cleared the route and reached the designated end point. Stay seated unless a proper handrail is in place. No riding on hoods or roofs.

5. Alcohol and glass
No alcohol in the parade. No cups or glassware on the route. Bottled water or canned soft drinks are fine.

6. Handouts
Nothing may be thrown from a vehicle, float, or golf cart — candy, beads, papers, or anything else.

No promotional flyers or business cards along the route. Banners and signs should identify your group, not sell a product.

7. Vehicles and floats
Drivers must hold a valid license and the vehicle must be insured.
Give us total length (tow vehicle + trailer + add-ons) on the entry form. Units that are unsafe, unfinished, or too large may be held or removed.
Any float using a generator must carry a fire extinguisher (10 lb ABC or better).

8. Animals
If your unit includes animals, you provide waste control and cleanup. The Committee may refuse an animal unit that is not under control.

9. What stays off the route
No skateboards, rollerblades, skates, or hoverboards. No dangerous or noxious activity. The Committee may inspect any unit.

10. Politics
Officeholders may appear in their official capacity, not as candidates. No campaign signs, buttons, or apparel.

11. Weather and cancellation
The Committee may delay or cancel the parade for weather or another emergency. Watch your email and our site that morning.

12. Photos and video
By marching, you allow the Greenville St. Patrick’s Day Committee to use photos and video of your unit for publicity and archives, without payment.

13. Line-up is by approval only
Submitting the form is not a spot in the parade. You are on the line-up after we approve you and, if a fee applies, after payment clears. Do not show up unregistered. Staging time, line-up number, and end-of-route instructions go out by email in early March.

How to agree
The authorized contact checks “I agree to the Parade Rules” on the Parade Marchers Entry form. That covers the whole unit. A participant waiver may be required before parade day.
